The Beat Generation Artists and Their Art
The Art of the Beat Generation helped show how the culture of America was changing. It was chaotic and wonderful. The art was considered a rebellion against society because it was crazy and did not seem organized at all. The artists tried to show that their emotions and feelings through the quick long strokes of paint and the chaotic nature. Many of the paintings of the time did not look like they were planned but they were actually thought out well in advance.

"Painting Number Two" by Franz Kline "You paint the way you have to in order to give. That's life itself, and someone will look and say it is the product of knowing, but it has noting to do with knowing, it has to do with giving."
"Ocean Park Series #8" 1962 John Altoon. This Beat Generation artist represents this time period because his painting often had this "unorganized" look to them. He was able to capture and express his feelings and the chaos of the time. He showed that things are not what they seem and something that looks so simple can be very mesmering.
Lenore Jaffee Goddess 1959. Lenore Jaffee was a beat generation Artist who inspired women artists with her abstract painters. She was one of the first women abstract painters of her time and she was able to inspire future women artists.
